As the UK's leading Log Suppliers (http://www.logs2u.co.uk/logs-supplier) we get lots of questions from our customers each day about buying logs online.

One question which is very common is, how heavy is your Bag of Logs? or what does a bag of logs weigh?

This question is usually posed because customers are trying to find Cheap Logs (http://www.logs2u.co.uk/cheap-logs-and-wood-fuels-price-reductions) to buy and have seen logs for sale (http://www.logs2u.co.uk/logs-for-sale) on other log suppliers web sites and the logs or firewood is sold by weight.

Here is our best advice for you.

Log Buying Step 1- Make sure you are buying and comparing like for like.

Kiln Dried Logs (http://www.logs2u.co.uk/category/buy-logs-online/kiln-dried-logs) are not the same as Seasoned Logs (http://www.logs2u.co.uk/category/buy-logs-online/seasoned-logs) and both seasoned and kiln dried logs are not the same as Unseasoned Logs (http://www.logs2u.co.uk/category/buy-logs-online/self-season-logs) or green wood. When you see an advert for logs or firewood make sure that the company selling the product states whether they are seasoned, unseasoned or kiln dried logs. It would be easy to see a bulk bag or two of logs at a price which appears to be half the price of another sellers product - and that can easily be the case - for example, If you were to compare a dumpy bag of kiln dried logs to a similiar bag of unseasoned logs.

Log Buying Step 2- Don't get drawn into trying to work out weight comparisons. Under UK Law, (The weights and measures act) companies are not allowed to sell logs by weight. The reason is to protect you the consumer and this is to do with the moisture content of logs. If you are looking for a good deal don't order by weight.

Any business who has published logs for sale by weight has not met the requirements of UK law and therefore there may be other significant things in their service delivery that they also get wrong - for instance, do they label their products as seasoned, unseasoned or Kiln dried? If they don't, you may be paying out your hard earned cash on a bag of water! Logs can contain over 60% water! To elaborate the point to the extreme - If you really want water, you can get it free from your tap or if you really wish to pay for it you can buy it from a supermarket in plastic bottles! If you want value for money buy logs which are very low in moisture content.

Log Buying Step 3- Don't get confused with terminology. Softwood logs are different from hardwood logs and a hardwood log does not mean it is seasoned either - to make things simpler here is a simple list of unique products - each one is different. To understand more about this use one of the links listed at the end of this article.

Kiln Dried Logs can be either...
Kiln Dried Softwood Logs
Kiln Dried Hardwood Logs

Seasoned Logs can be either...
Seasoned Hardwood Logs
Seasoned Softwood Logs

Unseasoned Logs (sometimes named as green logs or green wood) can be either...
Unseasoned Hardwood Logs
Unseasoned Softwood Logs
All unseasoned logs need to be first seasoned in a log store (http://www.logs2u.co.uk/category/buy-logs-online/log-stores) or similiar dry, airy location.

Fire Logs (http://www.logs2u.co.uk/category/buy-logs-online/fire-logs) or Heat Logs usually mean a manufactured log made from waste wood products.

Generally speaking, most people prefer hardwood logs (http://www.logs2u.co.uk) as they burn slower and hotter than softwood logs. Softwood logs are great on milder days.

Here are a few quick links to help you understand more about getting the best deal on logs and firewood

Currently we live in Sheffield but are looking to mutually exchange for a council property in the Alvaston area of Derby.

This bungalow is classified as “adapted” housing and therefor elderly applicants or applicants with mobility needs, would keep the mutual exchange within the guidelines of the councils requirements and assure the swap is uncomplicated. You could be an assigned carer for an elderly person and possibly use this opportunity to “live in” with the person you are caring for? Maybe you or someone you know is on the waiting list with “mobility needs” or ideally if you already have an adapted property but you are thinking of moving across counties to be nearer friends then this could be the opportunity for you to secure a suitable property. The government have recently stopped councils from exchanging tenants, so we have to do the leg work ourselves and then propose the exchange to our relative housing associations.

The bungalow comprises of :

Living Area ( 13’ x 12’ ) .. leading out onto tidy back garden area. ( 50’ x 24’ )
Kitchen ( 10’ x 8’ )
Wetroom ( 7’6” x 6’ ) with grab rails

Bedroom 1 ( 11’6” x 9 ‘)
Bedroom 2 ( 10’ x 6’ )

With “patio” area to the front of the property and room to park. Suit person(s) with mobility/ health issues. Although the property is “two bedroomed”, the rooms are quite small and would ideally suit a married couple or single person. rent £68 pw

We are looking for similar property in the Alvaston area of Derby. Ideally, your property would be single level accom, (ground floor flat, bungalow or maisonette) or 2 Bed house with downstairs toilet or bathroom and a “dining area” that could be useful as a bedroom or sleeping area for an elderly person.

If you are interested, or know someone in the area who may benefit from single level accommodation, please get in touch

Volunteers Required

Do you want to give something back and make a difference to a local family? Then why not take up the challenge of volunteering. Derbyshire Autism Services Group is looking for dedicated people within Derbyshire to provide support to a family with child or young person who has an Autism Spectrum Condition.

We have numerous volunteering opportunities including:

Regular work for a sustained period with a specific child or young person, usually 2.5 hours every other week.

Sessional work every week or fortnightly, supporting a member of our base staff with a specific child or children.

Monthly work being part of a team taking young people on short residential breaks, either 24 or 48 hours.

Volunteers will receive training on autism spectrum conditions and other relevant training, have their travel expenses reimbursed, be carefully matched to a child considering location, experience and interests and be supported by our volunteer coordinator throughout the process.

If you want to meet new people, improve your skills, extend your experiences, feel valued and have fun then contact us for an application form.

The mother is 60 plus and the son 40 plus.

Average age of attendees is probably 45 to be honest and the numbers have dropped that much recently the whole thing could close sson.

So if you fancy a trip out of Derby with a few mates give it a try

Hello, we're looking for some friends we met at the Red Hill Boat Show at the end of August. Their names are Steve (dad) Barbara (mum) Sam (daughter) and Ryan (son). I don't know what part of Derby they live in, but if anyone knows them can you tell them to get in touch with Annie and Mark from Salford near Manchester. We've lost their contact detials.
Many thanks, I know it's a long shot.
